Solar Array.jpg — OUR SOLAR POWERED BAKERY

In 2018, we installed a 196KW solar array on the roof of our Kingston HQ. We bake our breads using a thermo-oil oven system from Heuft GMBH, in our opinion the best builder of artisan bread ovens around the world. These ovens are engineered for efficiency, and use a single natural gas burner to bake thousands of breads each hour, while our solar array provides the energy for the pumps and motors that circulate heat around the ovens.

Bread Alone has signed-on to the 100% Committed Campaign created by the Climate Reality Project. With this commitment, we have pledged to source 100% of our energy from renewable sources no later than 2030.

CLIMATE NEUTRAL CERTIFIED

In partnership with Climate Neutral, we measure our carbon emissions from producing and delivering our breads. We purchased carbon credits to offset our footprint and are implementing strategies to reduce our emissions this year and beyond.

ORGANIC FROM THE START

Bread Alone has been baking with organic grains since our first loaf in 1983. We believe that organic food production is the right choice for individual health, for our earth, and for the farmers that work our fields.

A sustainable production model

We make it a top priority to reduce waste and conserve energy in all areas of our operation.

EFFICIENT DELIVERIES

We deliver our breads every day using internal combustion engine trucks. There is no avoiding this simple fact! But we can choose to do so with as light a foot-print as possible. And that's what we do with our fleet of efficient 4 cylinder diesel Mercedes sprinter trucks.

We are closely monitoring the development of electric delivery trucks, and hope to be an early adopter for these technologies as they become viable.

WASTE REDIRECTED

We compost food waste both within the bakery and in the cafes, and donate leftover bread to soup kitchens, farmers, and to organizations such as City Harvest.
